Washkalankunda is a single from South Africa based Nigerian Artist Scoobynero ft. Gigi Lamyne, Five-time South African Hip Hop Award winner- which came out back in 2016. The chune proved to be widely popular that a remix was already in the making in that same year. It was released under G Force Records, a South African based Nigerian record label. The remix features Gigi Lamyne, Maraza, AB Crazy and Dancehall’s MizDee and it was immediately followed by a video.
In the video we glimpse MizDee in the opening sequence and intro lines as she warns: ‘Don’t ask what is Washkalakunda, Girl with an attitude…’ She is styled and dressed by Joburg based fashion house Beautiful Designs South Africa, transforming her into a sophisticated bad girl with the 50’s style. The Black and White visuals also adds to the momentum in mushing up dancehall lyrical style in this infectious tune. MizDee’s delivery is lyrically and visually spot on.
From Genesis to Washkalakunda
She has come a long way since her debut back in 2014 with her Genesis Mixtape: It represented the beginning of Mizdee Muzik and “symbolize the beginning of my journey in the music industry. Genesis the Mixtape is my first baby”, explained the very shy and simple Mizdee back then. Since then she has seen a steady growth in the Reggae Dancehall scene and has garnered a sizeable fanbase especially in Joburg/Zim cycles. She collaborated on the track Mek I Love You with Teban Cee on the Antidote Riddim; featured on the Century Riddim, Tega Tega Riddim and November Braai Riddim from Abbra Records; voiced for Jamaican label, Smart Kid Records on The Rock Steady Riddim and the Majestic Riddim. She added spice to the Mzansi Reggae Sistas Compilation 1 & 2.
The bad gyal image had already started to take shape when she made a special appearance on the then stable mate TMula’s raunchy music video for wine up slow. She added dancer/choreographer in her credentials. Late last year she had tongues wagging when she posted sexy photos of herself on her social media pages and later changed her twitter handle to Dancehall Queen, deservedly stepping up to fill in the vacant title. She continued to work hard on her new image and music and craft, taking it a step at a time, until she landed on Washkalakunda; giving her access to hip hop audiences, west African market particularly the ever popular Naija Market.
MizDee is Mzansi’s Dancehall Queen. She got the looks. She got the Voice. She got the moves. She got attitude.
