AFRIMMA 2017 Nominations List Out

The fourth edition of the Africa Music Magazine Awards [AFRIMMA] and Music Festival will be held at at the House of Blues in Dallas, US on 18 October 2017.

The nominees entries closed in July for Artistes, Songwriters, Music/Entertainment Journalists, Video Directors, Music Producers, and DJs from across the African Continent and Diaspora. AFRIMMA awards celebrates excellence in musical artistry in Africa and the Diaspora, featuring 33 categories across the five regions of Africa and music genre.It is the sole award ceremony in Diaspora that caters to all musical genres including but not limited to Afrobeats, Assiko, Bongo, Decale, Funana, Genge, Highlife, Kwaito, Lingala and Soukous. Here we zoom in on our favourite category Reggae/Dancehall and artists artists aligned with it.

South Sudan’s Reggae sensation Dynamq got a nod with a nomination for Best Male East Africa Category, he will also be representing at the Rototom Sunplash Africa Edition this year. He is pitted against Uganda’s Bebe Cool who is also nominated in the East Africa Category. Mz Vee from Ghana will battle it out in the Best Female West Africa Category while Stonebwoy will go head to head with the likes of Davido, Wizkid, Tekno in the Best Male West Africa Category.

Stonebwoy wins Best Dancehall Artist at AFRIMMA 2015

Uganda’s Radio and Weasel are representing in the Best African Group and Eddy Kenzo is vying for the Artist of the year award. Jah Pryzah makes the cut in the Best Male Southern Africa category pitted against the likes of AKA, Casper Nyovest, Nasty Cee.

The Dancehall category is represented by three countries – Ghana, Nigeria and Zimbabwe with the 2015 winner Stonebwoy and 2016 winner Shatta Wale and 2014 Nominee Samini repping Ghana. Burna Boy, Timaya and Pato Ranking representing Nigeria with Buffalo Souljah representing Zimbabwe.
