The Independent Music Exporters South Africa (IMEXSA) is NOW accepting submissions for participation at Primavera in Spain and Midem in France.
Export ready enterprises are encouraged to apply and stand a chance of being part of the selected delegates to attend these international exhibitions.
Primavera Sound is a music festival that takes place between the end of May and beginning of June in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. This year’s event takes place from the 30th of May to the 3rd of June 2018.
Midem is the acronym for Marché International du Disque et de l’Edition Musicale, an annual trade show held in Cannes, France. This year’s edition takes place from the 5th to the 8th of June 2018.
IMEXSA’s focus is to develop and increase the number of music exporters in South Africa by identifying trade opportunities and assisting companies to take advantage of those opportunities. Supported by GDDA and Funded by the Department of Trade and Industry, IMEXSA has been operating over the past 8 years. During this time they have participated in and presented South African Unsigned and Independent Music Professionals at Popkomm-Germany, Womex – UK, Primavera Pro – Spain, Canada Music Weekin Toronto, MIDEM in France, CMJ in New York and South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin – Texas.

To apply, interested parties are required to download and complete an application form from the Imexsa website – www.imexsa.org.za. Completed forms together with all the required documentations can be submitted via email to IMEXSA – submissions@imexsa.org.za. Applications for Primavera are closing on the 15th of February 2018, while applications for Midem closes on the 20th of February 2018. Full details on what documents are required and where to submit them, are all on the website. Applications can also be couriered to IMEXSA offices in Midrand. For music samples, applicants should include online links to their artist’s music. A valid tax clearance certificate is needed as part of the application package. It’s also the responsibility of each applicant to always have a valid tax clearance if requested. The application process could take up to six months and hence all applicants are advised to immediately apply for a new certificate if theirs expires. IMEXSA can at any stage of the application process request an applicant to resubmit a tax clearance if theirs has expired. Failure to submit an updated one could result in the application being declined. Successful applicants will be required to pay a commitment fee of about R2000. They will also need to pay for their VISA applications and Insurance. Only flights, accommodation, exhibition costs and conference registrations will be paid for the successful applicants.
