Bongo Riot to headline the Smile Kulture Reggae Splash in Cape Town

The Dub Liberals Reggae Band proudly presents the Smile Kulture One Day Reggae Splash in Khayelitsha on Saturday 23, February 2019. The event organisers are pulling all stops this year to grow the event, which has been running on and off since 2006. The much celebrated dancehall artist Bongo Riot – The Dancehall Wankanda from Jozi will be headline act. Bongo Riot has just released an Album – Next Levels – produced by Powertainment Sound and Distributed by Bantu Media. The album was released just in time for entry to the South African Music Awards 2019, and Powertainment is confident that the album will be nominated. The smile Kulture Reggae Splash is his first stop in a nationwide tour for promoting the album. The ‘Dlozi Lam’ hitmaker who was  a member of the once popular music group, Gang of Instrumentals, went solo after the split and re-entered the Dancehall world with the experience  he amassed during his time with the group. He is the Artists’ Artist, a crowd puller and well respected in the Dancehall scene.

The line up also includes veteran Selector, Jah Crucial from Johannesburg who is expected to pull in his large following from Cape Town, as the elder has been in the industry for a long time, known also for bussing upcoming selectors in all his gigs. He will be bringing to Cape Town reggae roots and culture that he is known and respected for.

The Dub Liberal Band, formed in 2003 by Scratch and the late Ras Magnificent have laboured hard to keep the event going. They appropriated a piece of unused land in A Section opposite the traffic department in Khayelitsha (operated by Ras Cross who also have a fruit and veg stall in same area) and turned into a park for hosting events; thus the Smile Kulture Reggae Splash found a new and stable home. This will be the second time that the event takes place there.

Albert Bashmouth, the Cape Ruler who hosts Level the Vibes Radio Show on Bush Radio and Madd Sundays Events in Cape Town will pull in the ZimDancehall crowd to make this a truly representative show.

The Third Generation Band will be coming in from the Eastern Cape to grace the stage at Smile Kulture, with Rock Stone Band, Muzical Youth, Dub Liberals Band representing Cape Town and completing the Band Line Up.

The complete artist line up includes Jo Baka, Jah Kongo, Jah Lyric, Jah Noah, JahSoul, Jnr B, I Melody, Chuchu and Ghetto Warriors.

The organiser, Scratch Rugarchy , who is the lead singer of Dub Liberals cannot wait for the day and is elated about the progress, he explains: “We are expecting a large crowd for this family friendly gathering as we intend for it to be an annual event. Khayelitsha will once again hoist the Red Gold and Green Flag” –

Smile Kulture One Day Reggae Splash will take place on on Saturday 23, February 2019 at A Section Crosby Shelter, Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Gates open at 16:00 and show time is 18:00. Refreshments will be on sale and All Tribes Welcome.
