Reggae Ambassadors THIRD WORLD will return to South Africa for the Soweto International Jazz Festival [SIJF] 2019 which will take place on 14-16 June, 2019 at the GOG Lifestyle Venue, Soweto Garden. The maiden SIJF had to be cancelled in the very last minute last year due to some technicalities. There were also some concerns from local artists about the line up which marginalised local Jazz artists and favoured international and non Jazz artists. Third World had already arrived in South Africa to honor their date, but unfortunately the Festival had to be cancelled. The band went on to visit and enjoy Soweto and performed a set at a pop-up concert at Kwa Lichaba, a popular Soweto hang out place close to the famous Vilakazi Street and they left to perform in Ghana.
The first round of artists line up for this year has been announced and Third World Band is confirmed as part of the International act to perform at GOG Lifestyle Venue. South Africa’s Sipho ‘HotStix’ Mabuse, Ernie Smith, Mi Casa, Soweto Gospel Choir, Lady Zamar have also been confirmed and the international acts line up is completed by Julian Vaughn: A dynamic lead bass player from Kansas City and Pieces of a Dream from Philadelphia. More artists are expected to be announced soon.
