Speculations are rife that Sizzla Kalonji will not be performing in Ghana for the JaGha fest 2019. A statement from Sizzla Kalonji has been circulating on social media where he announces that he will not be performing at the highly anticipated much publicised JaGha Fest that will be taking place on Saturday, 13 April at Independence Square in Accra. In the statement Sizzla states that he did not get his advance and too many hands involved in handling payment and cites lack of professionalism from the promoters side.”Their Level of Professionalism is not inline with my principles…as such I will not be making an appearance. I was really looking forward to performing for you my Ghanaian People” states the highly circulated post.
Duane Stephenson, who was also scheduled to perform posted a video where he announces that he will not be part of the JaGha festival. In the statement he explains: “We tried very hard to come to proper arrangement with the organisers…proper information was not forthcoming…Stipulations were not met and this is basically the reason we are not coming down there”
No official statement has come forth from the festival organisers and people have to rely on hearsay of social media, meanwhile Sizzla statement posted only on his instagram page is now going viral, in the same way as his video went viral when he told a Ghanaian Fan in Jamaica that he will be performing in Ghana on April 13. Sizzla was reportedly supposed to arrive in Ghana on April 10, 2019, but apart from his Instagram post, there are no news about him, whether he has indeed landed in Ghana or cancelled before boarding the flight.
Meanwhile Natel and ZJ Sparks landed in Ghana and are hyped about the festival and being in the mother land. Natel wrote in an instagram post: GHANA are you ready for us?? Cause we are ready for you!!! #BujuVoice.
It seems the show will go on still, as there were many fire brand artists on the line up, heavyweights like Samini, Ras Kuuku, Epixode, Rudebwoy Ranking, Sean Taylor, XLNC, Shegah, Kahpun, Black Mallam and many more.
The Jamaica Ghana (JaGha) Reggae Festival is part of ‘The Year of Return Ghana 2019‘. The Year of Return, an initiative by the Ghana Tourism Authority to position Ghana as a key travel destination for African Americans and the African Diaspora. The festival is organised by Edge of the World Productions – a UK-based Ghana/Jamaica owned event company – and is anticipated to be an annual festival.
Still no official word from the JaGha Fest organisers.
Insiders are not surprised though with the turn of events. The JaGha Fest has been postponed prior to the April 13 Date. It was first scheduled for 9-10 March 2019 as a 2-day music festival with a line up that had Grammy Nominee Freddy Mcgregor as headline act. The unbelievably exciting line up included, Charly Black, Alaine, Mr Vegas, Ce’cile, Natel and Duane Stephenson with selectors Coppershot and ZJ Sparks. By the time we got to April, the line up of Jamaican artists was drastically reduced and the headline act was announced to be Sizzla.
Not so long ago Chris Martin landed in Ghana and reports that came out was that the show was a flop and most were blaming the organisers. No news, or photos about Chris Martin show in Ghana other than he recorded a tune with serial collaborator Stonebwoy.
Still no official word from promoters.
