SAMA25 Nominees for Best Reggae Album 2019
The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) announced early this year when the South African Music Awards nominations were opened that Reggae will have a standalone category known as Best Reggae Album. Previously the award was lumped under the Best R&B/Soul and Reggae Album category. For the last few years, there have been no winners nor nominations for Reggae as they had to contend with the popular genre R&B/Soul which inevitably always came up tops. Reggae was also bundled with the other genre due to lack of submissions from Reggae and Dancehall artists, but this year the tide has changed and there were enough submissions to warrant a stand alone category. An official at RISA was quoted as saying “This is an acknowledgement of the burgeoning music genre, which has witnessed an upswing in recent years.” The nominees were announced last night (25 April 19) at a star studded event at the Alberton Civic Centre in Johannesburg
