Chantty Natural Honors Dub Poet JahGene with the song Scary Place
Dub Poet and Conscious Reggae Vibes Band front man, JahGene passed away in 2016. He will forever be remembered as the man who coined the Tag line “Gatoga Mogala” (Let The Tune Play) a popular chant phrase in the Tswanshall genre circles. His poetry was meant to enlighten, uplift, motivate and draw man to the awareness of him-self. Live Wire Records plans to publish his publish his manuscripts and the Dub Poetry he recorded with Conscious Reggae Vibes Band posthumously.
He was a highly respected Spoken Word Artist in the Botswana creative circles and no one misses him more than his close associate and friend, Chantty Natural, who after 5 years managed to complete the song in his (Jahgene) memory and to overcome his own grief. Chantty started penning the song soon after the passing of his friend but was not able to complete it as emotions got in the way every time he worked on it, but finally after all those years, he got the strength to lock it down as he explains : “I was just pondering on the memories of the professor and was thinking to myself that if JahGene was still in this physical plane he would have done a good/excellent write up on this Corona Pandemic inna Dub Poetry Style”. That was enough motivation to seal off the song, also in time for the digital release of his album: Tswanshall.
Scary Place is released as a single off Chantty Natural’s Album, “Tswanshall”. It was initially released in July 2020 and was soon followed by a video collage produced by fellow musician Khayah13, released on September, 14.
Chantty dedicates this song to JahGene, his Sister Zipporah, his nephew Bonno and his grandma Mmoni may their Souls in Power. – Rastafari.
