Jah Link Brings Joy To Your Soul with Reggae Album
Jah Link first Reggae Album Joy too my Soul saw its digital release on 25 December 2020. I pressed play and set it as background music to what I was busy with. I got lost in the music and was taken away to a familiar calm space that allowed me continue effortlessly with the order of the day. On quite a few occasions I had to check if I was still listening to the Album and if indeed it’s still Jah Link coming through my speakers. Track like ‘Never You Loose’ ‘Your Faith’ caught me completely off guard. It was at this point that I realized that this Album IS actually bringing Joy to My Soul. Following what the Pandemic year brought to us, it is faith in oneself that one must never loose. The track that Follows immediately, ‘Give Thanks’, on the forthcoming Riddim called Mbhayimbhayi produced by Big Rebel of Satta Afrika Soundstation, is a reminder that despite all we give thanks still; We are still here. He confided in me that this Album restored his faith and “I nearly lost myself with these influences and Partying”. Hearing him on ‘You’re the Greatest’ you feel that he has found his strength in his voice. The lead Single ‘Joy To My Soul’ is nestled at number but it is essentially the proper intro that creeps to your Soul. It follows ‘Stay Safe and Sanitize’ which is a prelude and commentary on the current crisis we find ourselves in today and properly sets the tone of what is in store. It was during the height of the first Lockdown period when he started work on the album.
‘Struggling in the Ghetto’ is a soul drenching ghetto blues on a smooth new roots beat. I had to check again if it still Jah Link. I realize that he put his all into this, he poured his soul into this works, particularly on Track 3 ‘Its Blessed Right Where You Are‘; dedicated to his Mother who passed away in his arms back in 2018. The memory is still fresh, and Jah Link chose to honor and remember her with an optimistic and cheerful beat. It turns out to be his best, his emotional pride and favourite track of the Album. The tracks are laid out in a sequence that tells of this journey. He sounds different, matured and comfortable; the Flyweh Boss who mostly produces beats and puts out Riddims which are mostly Dancehall on his Flyweh Records Label. This is his debut strictly Reggae Album with a total of 14 tracks where he touches on familiar themes on a one drop beat. Producers Tiya Inity, Ally Stylez for Black on Black Production, Big Rebel for Satta Afrika Sound Station and Madd Koolia for Jammin Media Group, added their touches on the Project and all songs were Recorded and mastered at his Flyweh Records Studios, Cape Town.
He tasked me with listening to the entire album attentively and then tell him which is my favourite track from the album. A difficult task , a toss between Give thanks, Friend in Me, Its Blessed Where you are, and Joy to my Soul.
A special mention goes to ‘Ain’t Got No Love’ ; it hit somewhat differently. At first, looking at the title, I thought it was about that Love, that situationship type of Love. It turned out to be self introspection: It could be that because it lingers on, as it’s the closing track but I am inclined to believe that its the melody and the message it carries that remains lingering in the air. It is the end of the album but somehow feels like the beginning. I had to press play again, and again, then I settled for Repeat to save myself the trouble. The beginning fused with the end and I kept listening and listening to hold on to a bit longer to the joy in my soul brought to me courtesy of of the Flyweh Boss, the Royal Jah Link. It is better, though if you hear it yourself, rather than take my word for it. See if you could settle on one specific track.
The album is available on all digital platforms for streaming and downloading.
