Rastafarian youth Imeru Tafari, son of reggae superstar Queen Ifrica, and grandson of reggae legend Derrick Morgan has released his debut album. The release entitled “The Essential” is available on all platforms worldwide with production and label partner Koastal Kings, distributed by United States based music company DubShot Records. The 12 song set includes 8 previously unreleased songs, and features an impressive list of collaborating artists from both roots reggae and dancehall including: Popcaan, Chronic Law, Kabaka Pyramid, Iotosh, Samory I, KapitalStone, T’Jean, and his mother Queen Ifrica. The album works with several producers including Koastal Kings, Triple B Produktionz, Zion I Kings, Boomdraw, Sonovic, and Young Rebel Records.
Imeru Tafari hails from Kingston, his music is heavily influenced by his belief in Rasatafari, with lyrics emanating a cultural message of upliftment and liberation in the face of oppression. The artist has built a chemistry with producers Koastal Kings, members of Buju Banton’s live band, made up of power house recording duo Pelle and Keneil. He explains in his own words the influence and power behind his music by saying “Growing up in a Rastafari family, I was introduced to the livity from a tender age and have lived under the principles of H.I.M. my entire life.” He continues with “I see myself as an authentic Rasta yute and a lot of what has happened within recent times in reggae music is that it’s not as centered around the core fundamentals that the Rastafari community values.”
The album The Essential represents his first full body of work since the release of his first single in 2017. He has generated a buzz in the reggae community in Jamaica and around the world with an authentic and culturally relevant voice, rapid fire vocal expression, and captivating stage performance. The release will be supported by new videos for several tracks on the album.
