
Queen Omega Headlines the Catch A Fire Reggae Festival 2025
Trinidad and Tobago’s global reggae ambassador Queen Omega (Jeneile Osborne) is heading South Africa for the first time to headline the International Catch A Fire Festival set to take place on March 22, 2025 at Soweto Theatre in Soweto, Johannesburg.
For over 20 years, Queen Omega graced stages across Europe and other parts of the world, collaborating with powerhouse artists and forging a reputation as one of the most powerful female voices in Reggae, and now for the first time, South African Reggae lovers will experience her powerful voice and energetic stage performance live.
In 2017 she appeared the MANUDIGITAL Digital Session bussing her vocal prowess with the song Don’t Call Me Local, and the whole Reggae world went into a frenzy. The video garnered over 5 million views and the following year the song featured on Digital Kingston Session Vol 1 also available on vynil.
Who would forget the 2023 viral Recording of her song ‘No Love’ Dubplate she did for Little Lion Sound that revived the culture of dubplates and put the little sound to international fame? It garnered over 45 million views. Queen Omega was back in the limelight again and for the next two years she embarked on a highly successful European Tour. Her 2024 ‘Mo Love Tour’ saw her performing in Euriope, UK and the US. She performed for the first time in Canada, and also made it to the famed Jam Rock Reggae Cruise. She touched down on almost all European summer festivals, yet, as she stated in one interview, that she longs to perform in Africa and the Carribean. Finally, she will get to connect, vibe and sing for the Reggae fans down inna Mzansi.
Her connection and love for the Mother land has always been strong and evident in her lyrics and interviews. She connected with Kenyan artist Salma Queen on a song titled People Rise She also lent her powerful voice to the smooth Afro Soul song by Cape Verdean artist Andreai on the track called Ka Ta Pode taken off Andreai’s EP Oh Nha Mae.
In 2023 Queen Omega released her seventh studio album – Freedom Legacy– produced by Lions Flow Production and distributed by French Label Baco Records. Two songs resonated with the die hard Mzansi Reggae listeners. the critically acclaimed Fittest, which came out as the lead single and Wise Queens featuring Jahlifa and Kushite. It resonated so well with Reggae Sisters and Empresses in Mzansi, as it confirmed their affinity to the global movement of RasTafari Queens.
Catch A Fire Festival
The Catch A Fire Reggae Festival, is in its sixth edition, and has been growing ever since. Last year’s edition had Pressure Busspipe and Dynamiq the Clash DJ bringing the fire to Soweto. This year they have added Dubplate Showcase session where two major sound systems will showcase their dubplates collection. The line up includes Etherton B and Gary B outta Zimbabwe, Nikki Z outta Jamaica, Capital Kings and Mada Glory brining in the local element. They are also introding the Catch A Fire Reggae Riddim inviting budding artists to voice on the Riddim. The top three artists will get to perform at Catch A Fire Festival and stand chance to get a distribution deal with Lioness Productions, the organisers of the Festival.
