These women have proved to be outstanding and challenging in their industries by showing a great amount of determination and passion in everything they do. The Reggae industry is one of the fortunate industries to host such powerful, hard working, passionate and determined women which form various parts of the industry like DJs, Event Coordinators, Musicians, Dancers, etc.
THE QUEENS
Rirhandzu Chauke AKA Dj Rhaa
DJ/SHELEKTOR
Born Rirhandzu Chauke, she is her mother’s first born child, she grew up All over Soweto, from Chiawelo to Diepkloof to Protea etc. Matriculated in 2001 at Vaal Christian School. 5 years later she went to study for a Media Diploma at Boston Media House in Sandton and that is when she met a good friend, Thembeka Hamilton who gave her an opportunity to do something she loves professionaly, “DJYING!” Peter Stuyvesant Cigarettes was looking for female djs and she happened to be at the right place at the right time, they got trained on how to use turntables and how to mix music, they mastered the art and started playing at Peter Stuyvesant Cigarettes’ promo gigs playing House and Dancehall. This was all in 2007 and here she is in 2013 and still growing. Playing good music and seeing people dancing and enjoying her set brings a huge smile to DJ Rha.
