Binti Afrika – Daughter of Africa
Binti Afrika is a dub reggae songstress from Nairobi, Kenya. She has emerged as Queen of Swahili Dub, a sound that combines sultry Swahili vibes with heavy dub reggae baselines. A sound that she developed sound in 2016 whilst collaborating with Mungo’s HiFi, a sound system based in Scotland heavily influenced by the original Jamaica
Sound system tradition. Since then she has been souring and working with different top notch producers both locally and internationally to further refine the Swahili Dub.
Born Grace Iseme on January 2, 1981 she was bestowed the name Binti Afrika back in high school as she manifested strong vibrations of Africa. 1999 was the year in which she kicked off her music career as part of the Kreative Mynds Group,with a first hit single “Mo Fire”, produced by Clemo of Calif Records, Kenya. She was nominated for a Kisima Music Award in 2007 and awarded the Most Outstanding Coast Artist in 2012.
Her debut album “Sauti Inawika” was released in January 2016, an Afro pop compilation celebrating her ethnic roots. It was an instant hit and in 2017 and she embarked on her first international Tour in Oslo, Norway. Prior to that, she had collaborated with top East African musicians. She has had the pleasure of working with top Reggae producers from Kenya and Europe and performing at a number of big stages in Africa including Fête de la Musique, Reggae in the Sun, Nyege Nyege Festival. Binti is also a social activist, championing the Lioness Order movement, using her personal experiences and music to uplift female youth from all corners of society and support the strengthening of sisterly bonds and the spiritual nurturing of the youth.

I have many scars of my own, that I see as shining reminders to be strong, conscious, true to myself and through my music I want to help women recognize and master their power, which ever that, which they felt lost due to one episode in their lives or another.” Binti Afrika.
Her second album “The Lioness Re-born” is slated for release in late 2020.
