BLIKSEMSTRAAL
Charl van der Westhuizen aka Wipe-Out aka BBoy Charl aka Bliksemstraal was born in West Coast town of Lamberts Bay but grew up on the Cape Flats, based in Eerste River, the melting pot of talent in the Northern Suburbs. Charl comes from a family of musicians and singers and since the age of sixteen he fell in love with the elements of HIP HOP, bboying and rhyming!!
His talent and skills was in high demand and he became a member of the champion bboy crew Azanian Flames, who were also the dancers of legendary rap group B.V.K. with RSA’s No 1 dee-jay: DJ Ready D & Mr Fat. The band has toured all over RSA and Europe, performing in night clubs and music festivals to 1000’s of screaming fans. BBoy Charl has represented RSA at Battle of the Year and The Humanitarian French BBoy Cup held in Europe.
From BBoying to rapping, Bliksemstraal has independently released 2 albums, 2 E.P.’s and over 200 hip hop, reggae to dancehall singles. 2016 Bliksemstraal released the viral smash hit: “Maak Pype” the hit music video was produced by Chris Kets of Azania Rising Productions. Bliksemstraal has been crowned “King of the Dancehall” in the Western Cape and become a house hold name all over the country, his hard work ethic has certainly paid off. He has done various collaborations with top reggae and dancehall producers and artists producing many viral hit songs such Body featuring Amigo, Corona featuring Jah Uzzi, Hande Op featuring Judge Supreme & Amigo, Volgens featuring Kimmy G, no local artist has created so many dance-floor and taxi hits ever with ZERO radio or TV airplay.
Die Straal as he fondly called has head-lined every reggae festival from the Cape Town to George, Mossel Bay, Port Elizabeth to Saldana Bay, his energy and electrifying stage presence has created many followers, with fans singing along to the King’s songs at shows. One can hear his songs booming at Taxi terminus’s, his music is in high demand from local dancehall selectors also becoming the curtain raiser for international artists, most recently opening for Sizzla.
The future looks bright for our young superstar, with more singles, an album and merchandise to be released in the next few months.
