MizDee
Lucia Danai Murowe is a Zimbabwean Born Musician based in South Africa popularly known as MizDee . She is a Singer/ Songwriter/ Rapper. She is also a dance choreographer and music producer. Born June 22, 1991, she always had a passion for music, performance and dance as a child and started pursuing her career in her youth.
She first emerged on the music scene as MizDee in 2009 as young raw talent and was groomed by JJ Productions in Cosmo City South Africa. Her first Reggae song ‘I wanna be’ featured Teban Cee on the Real Reggae Riddim 2013 produced by Pay Day Music in Jamaica and as her first commercial song the response she received from listeners convinced MizDee to pursue Reggae/Dancehall as a genre. She collaborated with Abra Tribe in 2014 when she produced her first commercial dancehall track called ‘Wine Fi Yuh’ on the Century Riddim by Jusa Dementor. She went on to collaborate with them on other projects while tapping into the Zim – Dancehall market as an upcoming artist. By then she had already started performing in Johannesburg and around South Africa. She set herself the task to familiarise with the ‘ZiMzansi’ Reggae /Dancehall Scene. She released her first Mix-tape in December 2014 and dubbed it ‘Genesis the Mixtape’. She compiled a 13 track mix-tape of projects she had done within the year from 2013 to 2014 which was as a combination of Main Stream Dancehall, Reggae and Zim Dancehall and she uploaded it for free downloads and again the response she got from listeners was incredible. MizDee began to work on her craft.
In 2014 she was nominated best Artist Diaspora in the Zim- Dancehall Music Awards amongst big Zimbabwean names such as Buffalo Soljah ,Jusa Dementor and Jah Hanief. She has collaborated with Award Winning Zimbabwean Artists such as Ras Caleb, Tmula, Ninja Kid, Nox and more. She also worked with a Jamaican Producer called Smartkid on two soulful reggae pieces one called “I’m a Survivor’” on the Rock Steady Riddim in 2015 and another called “Jah is on my Side” on the “Majestic Riddim” in 2016: These Compilations also featured renown Artists on the Reggae scene worldwide such as Lutan Fayah, Turbulence, Navino.
Also in 2016 She released a dancehall song called ‘Wickedest Whine’ on the Pharoah Riddim Produced by Dj Wallas from France this was an African / Jamaican compilation by Bashment Sound SA which saw MizDee playing on international airwaves across Africa and the World. 2017 has seen MizDee expanding even further in her career but ironically closer to home! She featured on Nigeria’s Scoobynero’s Washkalakunda Remix amongst prominent SA – Hip Hop Artists such as AbCrazy, Gigi La Mayne and Maraza where she set the bar as she lyrically tackles the Hip Hop beat with her punch lines in a mixture of English and Jamaican patois, tapping into the unsuspecting SA Hip Hop Scene and ripe Nigerian Music scene. When the remix dropped the feedback was incredible and people were curious to know who MizDee was and as if on cue she is introduced to the screens on the video transformed into a classic Bad Girl from the 50’s by a fashion house in Johannesburg called Beautiful Designs South Africa. Again in the song she shows her vocal strength but even more here she shows skill in visuals with a lot of confidence to go with it. The video is currently playing on Channel O, Sound City and Trace Africa and has seen a remarkable response from online bloggers and troopers all over the world with over 10000 views within a week on youtube. This collaboration has launched MizDee onto the next level. Currently she has featured on a single by Scoobynero called ‘Radio Sexx’ produced by TRK. Other projects are still in the pipeline.
Mizdee is a strong vocalist, lyricist, she is soulful and she has an ear for good sound. She writes her own lyrics and will sometimes produce her own vocals to get the perfect melodies.
