Born in 1980, Themba Manyoni Aka Momo Dread is from Orlando Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa. His passion for music drew him to study the Art for 3years, which has formed the Artist Momo Dread.
In the early 90s he decided to pursue a career in music and teamed up with fellow Rastafarians and established Dread House which mainly focused on promoting Ragga music and organising dancehall sessions in Soweto.
After forming the Dread House crew it intensified and explored the avenues of live performance and song writing, his performed in various national events like the Grahamstown Festival .Dread House members had different visions musically, so that lead to them going they separate ways, Momo Dread then started perusing his personal career by studying Music from the year 2003 and completed a 3 year diploma. While at school, Momo Dread befriended Ntando and Nhlanhla Nciza who introduced him to Robbie Malinga and Mjakes who are responsible for the establishment for Ntando’s career and many more.
Robbie Malinga then introduced Momo Dread to Puleng where he featured on her album and it won a Metro FM award. Momo Dread was also featured on Ntombi Ngcobo’s album, she is the daughter of Hashi’elimhlophe. Momo Dread has performed alongside Jamaican Artists: Jah Mason and Lutan Fyah in June 2011. He has also featured Lutan Fyah on a track that will soon be released this year in 2014. His Opened for Capleton in December 2012 and this Year 2014 should see him doing Tours of his own in and out of South Africa.
