Mfanafuthi Nkosi
Mfanafuthi Nkosi aka Mr Moda aka FruityStar was born in Vosloorus 0n the 07/08/1983. I grew up in Katlehong, but spent most of my childhood days in Tembisa, staying with my Grandmother, Mother & older brother. I come from a very musical background, with an uncle who was a Dj in famous clubs in Tembisa, My Mother has always been part of the church choir where she is the lead singer currently, and I’m also inspired by my two most famous Uncles Mark & Alex Rantseli.
I started showing my interest in dj’ing and mixing in 1997. I would mix with anything I got my hands on. I would mix tape deck to tape deck, tape deck with turntables, tape decks & cd. Since 1997 I have shared the decks with many big name dj’s, don’t think all remember me though, cause most of them came on the decks with BIG EGO’S lol! My love for mixing has helped
me a great deal in holding and keeping my musical dream alive as I’ve been blessed to have been a resident DJ from local radio level to international radio & have also mixed live on TV once. As a matter fact I was the 1st DJ to mix a live set on CHANNEL O years before basement mix started, shout out to my friend Lungile Radu who made it happen. In university I hosted the 1st ever reggae dancehall show at R.A.U radio now called UJ radio. I then joined Voice of Tembisa as reggae dancehall Dj in 2011 then later became a resident Reggae Dancehall Dj on 5fm for a year then moved to Metro FM’s Urbanbeat show as a Reggae Dancehall Dj in 2014.
In my career as a recording artist, I worked with well-known hip hop artists and producers. I worked with Sean Pages & PH in 2009 on a hip hop song titled “We run Tingz” which got very high rotation on Yfm radio station. In 2011 I then went on to worked on a song with PDot & JLawless, and in the same year I then worked with Gingerbread man on a song called “Shooting at Stars” which also received high rotation on Yfm radio station. In 2013, I worked with Blayze of Blayze entertainment. I have also done a house track called “Moda dance” with Terrance Parkah in 2013.
In 2014, I then officially joined Maximum Stylez Records and Publishing, as a signed recording artist, The Record Label is Owned and Managed by my old time friend, TEBOHO MONTSE and his wife EDNA MONTSE. I started Recording my long anticipated project under the Maximum Stylez Records and Publishing Team, and we just released our first single called “SGUBHU” from my very first and forthcoming Album, Due for release sometime next year.
SGUBHU is a very feel good type of song, that makes you want to dance, and still remind our parents and uncles of the good old time when they use to appreciate and dance to good music. In this Album, I worked with our very own Maximum Stylez Records in house producer, DJ face as my main producer. I also worked with THA BLOCC, AFRISOUL, and PEPSIN as we are all brothers from the same stable, but we have various other artists coming through to record as features into various tracks.
