Roserro

A singer, songwriter and performer with a distinctive and enticing voice, captivating stage presence, versatility, originality, a rich textured range – an ability to flow effortlessly across genres – fusing jazz, Afro Soul, R&B and Reggae. Roserro is set to lure audiences into her kaleidoscopic and multi-rhythmic world and stamp a bold mark on the South African music scene.

As one of a select clique of female composers – entertainment with social consciousness is a hallmark of her work. Her first EP features the lilting Vuka – a single celebrating the awakening to possibilities that South Africa has in store, while her offerings “I believe” and the reggae inspired “Kasi-2-Kasi” are melodic testament to her personal sense of activism, her dedication to community engagement and broader visions for African unity through music.

Born Noluthando Dlamini in the small town of Peddie in the Eastern Cape, Roserro grew up singing in church where her father was a priest and her mother, a nurse by profession, was a noted soprano. At home, her musical ear was infused with the towering sounds of legends Caiphas and Letta, Stompie Mavi and Miriam Makeba, while the audacity of 80s sensations Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, and Mercy Phakela fueled her passion. Starting out her career in the financial services sector, Roserro embraced her true calling after being enthusiastically received as she performed at a memorial service of famed bassist and composer Victor Ntoni in 2013.

Since turning to music, Roserro has performed for significant audiences at commemorations and celebrations for Women’s Day, Heritage Month, Black History Month, and Africa Month and at the Royal Woman & Pride Event in 2014. She has graced the stages of venues as eclectic as The Bassline, Victory Theatre, Ekhaya, and th ePataPata Club in Johannesburg. Performing at The National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 2014 the festivals’ Cue Magazine described her as: “Vibrant and full of energygoing on to say; “Roserro is a must see if you love soulful music!” Gaining recognition, not only with audiences, but also amongst her musical peers, Roserro has opened shows for the talented Brian Temba and Friends singing on par with her award-winning contemporaries Nothende, Wanda Baloyi, Kabomo and Reason.

Guided by her personal ethos – “The element of surprise is the spice of life“- Roserro is on a mission to live, love and give musically without limitation and beyond expectation. Exuding an attitude, charisma and artistic prowess, that is cosmopolitan yet rooted Roserro brings a welcome flavor and freshness to the musical scene that will leave audiences hungry for more.
