Khillaz Album “Ruling Town” available from the 4th of September 2020.
Khillaz, the dancehall artist from Malawi currently based in the township of Imizamo Yethu in Cape Town releases his Debut album “Ruling Town”.
Khillaz is always a good surprise. Every track is a surprise. On each production, he develops a new version of himself. His music can be listened for hours. The 10 track album is a coherent composition of Dancehall music with African elements – A mix of Chichewa, Khillaz’s native language from Malawi (e.g. “Zausiru”), Jamaican Patois and Caribbean English and relatable to all rap/trap and reggae-dancehall amateurs beyond boarders: vibey, rhythmic productions, catchy chorus (“Wowowo”), entraining flows that Khillaz drops with ease.
The hustle is present on the album (“Paper”, “Street Star”), the artist illustrates his context. But the mood is upbeat and playful.
A couple of tracks brings back Khillaz the sweet lover, the one who was discovered with “Missing My Gal”. After she “Answer di Call”, he gets to share some sweet words in her ears in “I Like Your Skin”.
His capacity to blend and stand out at the same time is remarkable and comes out nicely on the 4 collaborations part of the album.
With this album, Khillaz is becoming a major reference of today’s Malawian dancehall music. The recognition has been growing for a few years already, while today the field is widening, and he shows that he is ready for it and able to make things happen.
