Dr. Colbert Mukwevho Wins Reggae Song of the Year at the Tshivenda Music Awards [TSHIMA] 2024
As expected, Dr Colbert Mukwevho won the Song of the Year at the Phalafala FM Tshivenda Music Awards 2024 for his song Ri A Dikona released in 2022. The revered Dr Colbert Mukwevho who was part of the opening line up for the legendary Burning Spear on his One People Africa Tour in Johannesburg in 2024. The two icons would later jam together at the last minute concert organised in Limpopo Region for the Reggae Loving Limpopo masses. The mishaps in Kenya allowed for this to happen as there was a gap in the Tour dates allowing for an additional performance to be held, thus the people from Limpopo could enjoy a special Burning Spear Show exclusively to them selves.
Dr. Colbert Mukwevho was was up against popular youth versatile youth Ras Canly who entered his song Love and Hate taken from his 2024 seminal project HIS MAJESTY ALBUM.. He subsequently released the third volume to his My 5 series title Progress over Perfection to close off the 2024 year.
Another contender for the award was Rasta Bathu with an entry “Athi Holi sa Vheiwe” from the album Vhutshilo ndi Mashudu. A very beautiful South African Reggae Song. Rasta Bathu had also dropped another album Minwe ai Lingani in the same year. He was also competed in the Best Male Artist and Artist of the year category, but sadly left empty handed.
Humbulani Ramagwedzha, a veteran in the Reggae music scene in Limpopo was also a contender for the Award with the song Vhutshilo hanga ho Dzumbama from Album with same title. Last competitor Rofhiwa Nethwadzi entered his song Nikhadi Nkhumbula Naa? from his 2023 Album Ndi Nne Onoula.
The TSHIMA 2024 were announced on 07 December at Kalahari Lodge.
