Nkululeko Black Dillinger Madolo has just completed his latest offering ~ Informal Settlement Mixtape~ and will be launching it in Phillipi, Cape Town. A stellar line up of Cape Town’s finest supported by the CORNER STONE REGGAE BAND will be setting fire in Phillipi.
He will then be embarking on a European Informal Settlement Summer Tour to promote this. MzansiReggae caught up with him just before the big launch and chatted to him about the launch, his work and Uganda.
MzansiReggae:
Tell us more about the title of your mixtape. Why Informal Settlement.
Black Dillinger:
Well informal settlement is the reality and hash situations, condition and settlement that poor people are facing everyday including me personally. Informal settlement identifies the real ghetto life.
MR: Why mixtape not CD/Album. What’s the difference?
BD: Well what I actually did was we collected all the tracks that Black Dillinger have been recording from all this different studios from around the continent, and added a couple of new tunes and we title it Informal Settlement. So it’s a collection of unreleased tunes and we take them out as a mixtape as we are busy working on our new album that will be out in summer 2014, but will talk more about that sometime.
MR: We see you are launching just before your euro tour, have you got any dates confirmed in Euro. Will you then promote the mixtape in Mzansi when you return from euro?
BD: Yep we are launching it short before our European 2014 tour because it’s a South African or better say African production, therefore for us to release the record in Africa is very important and we are very pleased that we are nearly done with it. I have confirmed dates already in Germany, France, Austria and Russia and we are busy working on more bookings as we speak as we will be in Europe for three months. When we are back in South Africa will be continuing with the south African Informal Settlement tour and we also want t take it to other African neighbouring countries like Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Namibia if we are lucky enough we can also hit countries like Gambia, Nigeria and Uganda for now we just hope for the best as our management team and promoters are busy with bookings.
MR: Is the mixtape only available in hard copy or will there be a digital download?
BD: Yes The Mixtape is gonna be available in Hard Copies and also we are busy searching for the right digital or online links that we can be able to sell our music via them but as I said all of this are still in the pipe line.
MR: You have collaborated with a lot of artists on this mixtape, any collabo from Ugandan artists, seeing that you just came back from touring the country?
BD: Yep we just return from Uganda and also had a nicest time of our life because Uganda is one of the beautiful African country, we also did get a chance to work with some of Ugandan talented artist such as Y ATTA B, ANGELLA KATATUMBA, RAS CLAN FAMILY, BIG MAMA INTERTAINMENT and LION PEOPLE SOUND. Yep we was touring Uganda the whole of December 2013 and we returned in January the 2nd.
MR: Is the single My Ugandan Girl in the mixtape?
BD: Yep our no1 Hit Single Track MY UGANDAN GIRL will be also ft on our band new mixtape.
MR: How was Uganda? How are dem vybz there? How can we strengthen links amongst our fellow African brothers and sisters?
BD: To be in Uganda was like a blessing or a vision comes true only because to travel the eastern African countries was always my dream as a Rastafarian Jah Souljah to trod Zion is or will always be the fulfilment of Jah prophesy which is mankind shall return unto Ethiopia the birth place of mankind where the King of King and the Lord of Lords the Conquering Lion from the tribe of Judah Emperor Haile Selassie I Negus Negast of Ethiopia was crowned in 1930/02/Nov.
Uganda is a reggae capital and also geographically its directed under the equator that means it super green and full of life, Kampala the capital city is full of life and fun, the main street called Kabalagala where there is no night and reggae bars are all over and the cultural food of Uganda mmmmmmmh that I’m missing everyday also the climate landscapes and the nature it’s just a beautiful and an amazing country, best place to be I must say.
Reggae is one of the tool or element that unite nations and continents only because it’s a universal genre that speak about love, peace and unity and that’s what it’s all about, and true music, respect and clear thoughts I think there is a lot that can be achieved, we need to use this social networks to unite and link us to each other and that can result on creating opportunities and channels for us to mingle and exchange our skills and talents, sometime make us travel in between different countries representing yourself and your community including your country our there.
Bless.
