The 23rd edition of Arts Alive international Festival kicked off on 31 August and will run until 30 September. The Johannesburg Arts Alive Festival is an annual event held during the month of September at various places around Johannesburg. The festival hosts a line-up of theater, poetry, visual arts, music, dance and film, where local and international artists perform at various venues. Reggae artists, or Jamaican Artists as the festival prefers to call them, are a staple at this festival. Over the years, we have seen the likes of Etana, Mutabaruka, Jah9, LKJ perform as part of the international acts line up.

Cherine Anderson is a singer, songwriter and award winning actress who starred in Jamaica’s most successful films, Dancehall Queen and One Love will perform her signature Dancehall Soul Sound, which is a mixture reggae, dancehall, soul and RnB. She performed with Shabba Ranks, when the latter performed in Jamaica, hailed as the ‘Emperor of Dancehall’ for the first time after a long hiatus. She has also toured and worked with Sly and Robbie extensively.
Jah Vinci who’s real name is Kirk Rhoden, started his career as a member of Vybz Kartel’s Portmore Empire, but later re-emerged as a cultural artists steering towards new roots reggae sounds and making his mark in the industry and garnering a huge following with hits like Real Woman, Guide me, Nobody Knows.
