Themba Kona
Hailing from Zimbabwe, now residing in Cape Town (Marcus Garvey Rasta Community), King Themba has been playing sets alongside international names including Jamaican artists Sizzla, Bushman, Lutan Fyah, Etana, Turbulance, Capleton, Chronix and Anthony B, Gentleman (Germany) Jon Moon (Germany), Winky D and Freeman (Zim) just to mention a few. Having been chosen to be in the blessed presence of such inspiring Reggae artists, King Themba’s talent cannot be doubted. Born in Harare 1985, King Themba started his musical career in Zim 1999 as a sound system called Shakadhei, playing at various parties and clubs including the famous Tube Night Club in Harare, during the Jah B (Stereo 1) era.
After moving to Cape Town, SA, in 2006, King Temba enrolled at Varsity College to study an Advanced Diploma in International Hotel Management. He then joined UCT Radio (2008 – 2013) where he started his own Reggae Dance Hall Show “Sundae Riddim Mix”, co-hosted by Cape Towns legendary Teba Shumba “The Real Social Worker” alongside Ras Reggie, Khangelani and Tabs, now established artists/DJs in their own rights. His sound spread by working with various local reggae pioneers such as Ras Spitz, Reggae Afrika Sound System , Ras Dinamite, Johnny B, and Triple Crown’s founder, King Yellow. He has also worked alongside renowned local artists and bands such as Crosby, Daddy Spencer, Azania Band, Sons of Selassie, The Rudimentals, Black Dillinger, JJ Alcapone, Jah Link, VGL and more.
Even though Rasta by heart, King Themba’s multi-faceted talent is also apparent in his mixed tapes, displaying different music genres including Reggae, Dancehall, African Jams, Hip Hop, R&B and House.
