Lufuno Munzhelele goes Live
Lufuno Munzhelele in conjunction with ConcertZa and MEC Media are hosting the third annual Lufuno Munzhelele Live Concerts as part of the One Afrika Online Festival. This year’s edition will be a streamed live on MEC Media Social Media pages on Wednesday 16 December 2020 from 19:00 CAT.
Lufuno Munzhelele Live is an annual show that Lufuno started 3 years ago at the Old Fire Station in Pretoria. The idea behind the Live Concerts was conceived as a way of taking live music to the people and making it accessible and affordable. This year’s edition will be different in that it will be streamed live on Yotube and Facebook as a way of a positive contribution towards curbing the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic. “We took a decision this year to try a different approach which will assist greatly in reaching new audiences across the globe. The internet has made this world smaller, but the advent of COVID-19 showed us that we can live, work and perform live over the net to a wider audience.” _Lufuno
Lufuno was born into a musical family in the heart of Venda in Mutale region, Makwilidza. His music influence has been predominately traditional music, Reggae and most importantly the African Apostolic music, where his late father was a Pastor. “I played the drum at my Father’s church. Each and every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, we were in church and I always looked up to the singing and dancing.” Lufuno is now a Music student at the Vusi Mahlasela Music Foundation which he says has opened his eyes to a whole new world of music and performance. “I cannot emphasise the importance of Music education enough, Music theory really changed the way I approached my art and I can now proudly say I am an artist who understands what’s going on in my music” – Lufuno.
He started writing poetry and short stories at an early age. His imaginary mind had him humming his own tunes early where he subsequently teamed with his childhood friend, Humbulani ‘Reggaeman’ Ragimana, to form a group called “HardRock”. “Humbulani had a handmade guitar from oil tins which was my first experiment with a guitar. He’s the one who introduced me to Reggae, really. They are planning to release their collaborative works soon after the completion of the current Lufuno Munzhelele Live Project.
Lufuno’s performances have always been energetic and entertaining, while taking the viewers on a journey of a musical experience. Him and the band worked hard to get the sound that they can truly claim their own. The show is made possible by partnership between Lufuno Munzhelele and ConcertsSA, an entity that promotes live music around the country.
On this Live Stream Lufuno will premier new tracks from his upcoming EP and perform some of his popular songs including the critically acclaimed ‘Ḽi ḓo ḓa ḓuvha’, ‘Ngani Nṋe’, ‘Ri ḓo rabela’ and ‘Sunday afternoon’. The performance will be streamed live on Wednesday 16 December 2020 at 19:00 CAT on his YouTube and Facebook Pages. The online event, supported by ConcertsSA and Mukona Media will be free to view; all the viewers have to do is subscribe to the MEC Media Page where the streaming will take place.
