Lufuno Munzhelele takes Reggae music to the people

On Saturday 23rd of November, Lufuno Munzhelele will be performing live at FOUR FOUR TWO music lounge in Tshwane CBD. The performance is part of Lufuno Munzhelele’s initiative of taking Reggae music to the people. He will be backed by fellow students from the Vusi Mahlasela Music Foundation where Lufuno is also a student. ‘I enjoy performing; it gives me a sort of positive energy that I cannot describe. We’re taking this performance as students who must present their project to family and friends at the end of the term. So music lovers must come and enjoy some fresh sounds from the students band.’

He will be joined on stage by award winniner Jah Soldier, RasMashi, DRC Band, Sivhara Mulaudzi, Rooijah, ASA Manngo, Lutendo, Capital Kingz (Tshwane FM), Natty Lions, Sir Law G Kal, JahRa and many more.

Lufuno Munzhelele born at Thengwe, Makwilidza in Venda is a guitarist, writer and a qualified Sound Engineer. He has always shown interest in art from a young age and it was no surprise when he chose music as his career of choice. He was born and raised in a United African Apostolic Church family where his father was a preacher of the word. In his words: ‘My music is just an extension of the gospel that my father was preaching’.

In 2019 Lufuno decided to enroll for Music classes at the Vusi Mahlasela Music Development Foundation where he writes quarterly examinations with Unisa. At the Foundation Lufuno met fellow students who were willing to be his backing band during live performances. ‘We’ve been performing around Tshwane and it’s been an awesome experience to work with people from different musical background as myself. I think that’s what Reggae music is all about, uniting and achieving extra ordinary results.’

‘Li do da duvha’ is the first single release from Lufuno Munzhelele’s debut EP which is due for release in 2020. In the song he features Kings Fam Official, an upcoming Hip hop group based in Venda. ‘Li do da duvha’ is a song of hope declaring that one of the good days, it shall be alright and we’ll see success through all the challenges we face. The video for the song was shot using a cellphone and is available for download on Youtube. Other songs on the EP are ‘Sunday afternoon’, ‘Nganinne’, ‘Dibviseni’, ’Kondelelani’, ‘Ri do rabela’, ‘Fulufhelo’and ‘Lufunolwavheiwe’.

Apart from producing and performing music, Lufuno also writes articles for MzansiReggae.
