In brief, tell us about your journey to the Awards.
Well it took me 23 years of hard work and dedication to reach the SAMA25.
Who was important to the process?
The Writers, Composers, Producers, My label and Management team who all worked hard with me in putting this album together and make sure we have a good quality, entertaining album that is eligible for a SAMA nomination. This is a bonus.
Do you think that the award nomination would change the perception about Reggae, considering there have been Reggae winners in the past?
Not really though, I think we as reggae industry need to pull up our socks and make use of this special moments to last forever that generation to generation can benefit from this achievement.
How can we make sure that the category stays relevant?
By submitting good music, getting more airplays, bookings and stage shows not forgetting about keeping on making good music with proper mix and mastering and good quality music videos.
Why should artists participate in the SAMAs? How can it benefit their careers?
Reggae Artists Must Participate because the SAMAs are considered the highest level of music recognition in South Africa if not the continent and continuously appearing in that space makes the genre relevant and the artist relevant.
Do you agree with the current state of voting or would rather have the public vote for their favourite artist?
For me everything is everything however it was gonna be much greater if people or masses was able to vote for the artist of their choice but other genres are judged the same as reggae except the top categories so everything is everything.
Why should you win the award?
My team and I have put in a lot of work to produce a special album and indeed “Mavara is King” is a world class album.
