The phrase ‘Do Not Judge A Book by its cover’ has never been so relevant. The EP Cover does not reflect what’s inside., and one could easily just scroll by without taking a moment to listen. Although it reflects the philosophy of the man, it misses the mark when it comes to the music inside. Once you have overcome the judgement of the cover and hit that play button, you will be hit by the soulful reggae sounds of Ras Kxng Tod.

Kicking off with the track Love and Peace, a plea that has been echoed by many: Black People Stop Killing one another. /I wanna see the smile on your face /indicating love and Peace. The song arrangement and instrumentation are levelled and reminiscent of the very sounds associated with the live instrumentation emanating from KZN, This is followed by the unexpectedly funky soulful deliberate Tears of Sorrow. Sometimes it sounds as if it’s off beat, then you realise that that how its supposed to sound, especially when he randomly switches lyrics into isiZulu. Tears of Sorrow is a personal favourite, its different and refreshing. Nyan Nyan is another beautiful track. It’s a love song and is typical of how a Zulu man would express his love. That Zulu type of loving. He says no matter what happens I am going to marry you. And to drive home his point he throws in a line in KiSwahili and Sesotho (atypical of the Zulu people dem). The title is in isiXhosa and a very common slang used for emphasis.. – When you know you know. The beat is that laid back type of beat that has you bobbing your head involuntarily. The track ‘Sometimes‘ is a self reflection type of tune laid on the same beat as Nyan Nyan. Then he gets bold and experimental with the closing track Uthando, One has to listen to the track to discern it for oneself. i will not do justice if i tried to describe it. But if you are spiritual, you will hear futuristic sounds or maybe they’re ancient sounds.
