Spearheaded by one of South Africa most revered reggae artist and elder Mr. Carlos Djedje,
Reggae Explosion is set to bring joy to reggae music lovers. In a bold move to revive reggae
music concerts, One Heart music promotions have joined force with the South African State
Theatre to produce monthly reggae music shows, with the first show to be held on the 21 May
2016, featuring The Lucky Dube Band which will be celebrating the life and times of the late
reggae music icon Lucky Dube. Since his tragedy demise the Lucky Dube Band has been the
most sought after band in South African and aboard they have performed in many countries
internationally including in Germany, Canada and United State of America to name a few.
“ Reggae music is the corner stone of every developing country, in most cases this music spread
and preaches love, happiness and peace which is what we really need in our country at the
moment, I believe that it can be used as a tool to revive moral regeneration and help fight
social ill that includes drug abuse and other ills. It is the most viable tool to foster social
cohesion” Say Mr. Carlos Djedje the Director of One Heart Music and the promoter of Reggae
Explosion concerts.
Lucky Dube’s words were weapons that fought racial discrimination, inequality and all sorts of
injustice in the world. He awakened the spiritual and cultural heritage of Africans. Even in
death, his songs still reverberate throughout the continent, in our households, the dusty streets
and the leafy suburbs. Dube's message was universal and transcended borders and classes.
But Rastas never die. As such The Lucky Dube Band is continuing his legacy as an achiever,
messenger and musician par excellence with a new tribute album titled "Celebrate His Life" the
band’s first release after Dube’s demise was released on 3 August 2015 produced by two of
Dube's band members Isaac "TO" Moloantoa who plays the bass guitar and Andile
"Makepeace" Nqubezelo who plays drums. It's engineered and mastered by Dave Segal. This
ten track album boasts talent that worked with Dube for many years, and is the band’s offering
to celebrate a life worth celebrating.
Lenah Mochoele, the band manager and whose brainchild the project is partnered with Dube’s
son Thokozani to empower the members of the band to produce the tribute album themselves
so as to showcase the rich talent that Dube himself mentored. Members of the band including
the backing vocalists composed songs and Celebrate His Life offers a myriad of talents and gifts
for the South African music industry. The band continues to rock audiences in international
markets as if Dube himself is still there. The band celebrated Dube’Reggaes life on 31 August 2013 for
the first time under The Lucky Dube Band name, and continues to show case different lead
vocals to allow a creative balance and avoid the band reliance on one lead vocalist which may
cause the collapse of the legacy. Let the band play on.
The band continues to use different platforms to celebrate his life and this year the band will
perform in what is deemed as a warm up for the Africa Day Celebrations 2016 in partnership
with the State Theatre and One Heart Music Promotions, on May 21st, Celebrating the life of
