The Reggae community, particularly the Gauteng Reggae community is mourning the passing away of Sista Mpumi Kumalo, affectionately called Sanctified Dub or MaKhumalo who passed away shortly after being hospitalised. News of her passing broke on social media with the announcement from David House Crew which she was part of.  A few days prior her partner posted a pic of her asking friends to pray for her as she was not feeling well. Almost everybody who knew her sent wishes  and prayers of speedy recovery and strength to the partner.  The morning of Friday 28 May 2021, it was announced that she lost the battle and has passed on flesh.

Condolences came flooding in on Social Media to the Sanctified One, the Sista who oozed with humility and love. She was a sister to many in the Rastafari and Reggae Community, an aunt to their children, a Godmother, a Friend, a Lover of all things Reggae. She had started earnestly to be on the line up of every dance in and around Johannesburg, on heavy rotation in the Dance scene, especially the Local ´Kasi´ gatherings with her friend Zinhle Chombo. They called her Shelekta! She was hosting a Reggae Radio Show at Hillbrow Radio with Selecta Sanzalixious and her focus was on female voices. Forever present in the scene, giving support and keeping it real. That is how MzansiReggae used a picture of her and her longtime friend Zinhle Chombo for the cover of the MzansiReggae Essential Mix: Kasi Edition – because that picture effortlessly captured the vibez and energy and represented the spirit of Kasi Vibes that Sanctified embodied, always together with beastie Zinhle ‘Nompempe’ Chombo. It was Sanctified Dub even when she is not on the controls.

She was always calm and always representing the Red Gold and Green and that could also be reflected in her DJ sets. Many have got so much memorable experiences that they had shared with her and are now reliving those past memories on her Facebook page.

MzansiReggae sends message of strength to her family, her partner and her friends. This is one soul that will be missed but forever edged in our minds.

Oh anointed One May the Ancestors welcome you.
