Rocky Dawuni nominated for Grammy Awards

Ghanaian reggae artiste, Rocky Dawuni has been nominated for the Grammy Awards. The Reggae artiste who is based in Los Angeles got nominated in the Best Reggae Album category for his album Branches Of The Same Tree.

The nominees for the 2016 awards were announced Monday. Rocky Dawuni will have to battle it out with the biggest names in the industry which includes: Jah Cure for ‘The Cure’, Barrington Levy for ‘Acousticalevy’, Luciano for ‘Zion Awake’ and Morgan Heritage for their album, ‘Strictly Roots’

Other African artists nominated at the Grammy’s are: Ladysmith Black Mambazo [South Africa] and Angelique Kidjo [Benin] in the World Music Category and Jidenna [America – Nigeria] in the Best Rap/Song Collaboration category.

The interesting news in the Reggae category is that noone from the Marley family has been nominated this year, giving space for exposure to other equally talented artists and to showcase the variety and spread of reggae music worldwide.

Winners of the 2016 edition of the awards will be announced on February 2 2016 in a ceremony that will be telecast live on American cable network, CBS.
