Rototom and Formiguer brings the most family-friendly space of the Reggae Festival

Rototom and Formiguer combine talent and ingenuity to fill the most family-friendly space of the reggae festival with content, fun and awareness

The international reggae festival Rototom Sunsplash continues to introduce new features for its 2022 edition, the reunion edition, that care for and empower its family profile in the heart of the Benicàssim concert venue.

In the reopening of the event after the pandemic, the musical macro-city announces a union of talents to fill with content and dynamics one of the epicentres for the audience and their companions. Magicomundo will take to the stage this year under the binomial Rototom and Formiguer, a new project, the latter formed by the team of the emblematic Formigues Festival, and which embodies the symbiosis between two great Benicàssim festivals that are also benchmarks in the promotion of culture in mini format.

This tandem adds to the transformation implicit in the festival’s 2022 them, ‘We must change the world‘. Thus, the most family orientated area of Sunsplash will follow this thread to reformulate its spaces without changing the philosophy that has guided Magicomundo since its beginnings: to encourage creativity and imagination through free and spontaneous play.

This year’s activity will take place in three spacesLa Bambolina, dedicated to the performing arts and into which Rototom Circus will be integrated; El Giocódromo, a universe reserved for play and artistic expression; and El Cuórum, which, protected by a well-kept space with a comfortable dome, will be reserved for reflection, talks, knowledge and rest.

Magicomundo will host the proposals of the Ciudad Feliz project, an Association for the Dynamic activation of Social Art; the clown with a rock star soul of ‘Olicopter‘; ‘Aunch‘, Abraham Arzate’s circus proposal; or the female shows ‘Bambalina‘ by the clown Txetxe Folch, ‘Alma‘, by Marta Martín of the Circo Culipardo company or the ‘Cantamundos‘ by the music educator Alba Larrey, as well as a surprise concert. Among the many other proposals, there will also be the JuegODS, which will tackle the sustainable development objectives through play; the prestigious magazine ‘Pantera‘ with a nest workshop; NatuArte by Baobab Oci Creatiu; and the games of El Pájaro Carpintero (The Woodpecker).

Magicomundo implements these small changes, new additions, but with the same synergies “that will serve as a lever for that global change that this year is our goal”, according to the festival. Novelties that also reach another of the festival’s family areas, such as the Teen Yard, the area reserved for the Rototom youth. This year it is moving. It is relocating its stage next to Magicomundo, thus designing an area for the more family-oriented public within the concert venue “but preserving the independence demanded by the young people”, according to the organisers.

Radio workshops, initiation to photography, music editing and beat box together with feminist twerk sessions will be joined by activities with a conscience, such as the one that seeks to deactivate racism and xenophobia through music as a tool to prevent, detect and raise awareness of inequalities and injustices. In addition, this year the skate area has been completely renewed with new collaborators. The Urbns.Co collective from Valencia is incorporating a pro miniramp, and a team of skaters will be in the space to introduce the public to the world of skateboarding.

This triangle for families is closed by the Artesano market, which is once again displaying its attractive showcase of activities for adults and younger ones. Every day this space will open its doors with learning, fun and awareness on the horizon, with recycled and biodegradable materials to build useful and beautiful things as a tool to achieve the challenge of enjoying, the process of changing the world.
