Selector Yaadcore to play in Soweto – @Yaadcore.
Lebo’s Backpackers in Soweto will once again hoist the Red Gold and Green Flag on Saturday 29 December at the Catch A Fire Reggae in Mzansi Fest 2019.
Selector Yaadcore, co-founder of Dubwise Jamaica and official DJ for international recording artist Protoje will headline the event as part of his Riddim Salute Africa Tour 2019. This will be his first visit to South Africa. He will be joined by another renowned Jamaican recording artist IQulah who will be backed by Azania Band, South Africa’s prolific reggae band from Cape Town. The internationally acclaimed South Africa’s Dub Ambassador Kebra Ethiopia Sound with Doc Inity pon the controls will add the Mzansi Steppas Flavour. The lineup will then be completed by Mzansi’s finest artists and DJ’s.
Dubwise Jamaica will meet the University of Steppas for the first time. Dubwise is a movement that started about five years ago with the aim of reintroducing “authentic roots dub reggae music in spaces accessible to a mainstream audience”. The event series has since gone international and was also staged in the US, Dubwise Miami. It was founded by DJ Yaadcore, Protoje and Jason Panton.
Stepping or Skanking, is a uniquely South African dance style that finely attunes to Dub music and always performed at the Rub-A-Dub sessions inna the ghettos. University of Steppas is a movement that has introduced and exposed the Mzansi’s brand of stepping to international Reggae and Dub festivals across Europe and America (especially in Brazil where stepping has become part and parcel of some Reggae Dub sessions) through Kebra Ethiopia Sound. And now Jamaica will also experience the charm of ghetto skanking to dub music, through Dubwise Selector Yaadcore and hopefully Dubwise Mzansi can be set in motion for an annual gathering .
Lebo’s back packers, nestled snuggly between the historic Orlando Stadium in the back drop across the railway lines towards the east of Orlando and the community gardening project edged on the little koppie (hill) on the west will be filled with the reggae aroma and the roots reggae masses inna dem Khaki Suit and Ting will be stepping the night away, welcoming the Roman calendar New Year.
Catch A Fire Reggae in Mzansi Fest 2019 will take place at Soweto Back Packers in Orlando West, Soweto (not far from the houses of the two Nobel Prize winners), South Africa on 29 December 2018. Tickets cost R150 for adults and R70 for kids over 12 and R50 for cooler box. The activities will start at 12 noon.
