Shatta Wale State of the Industry Address
The State of the Industry Address was initially conceived as an address to his fan base ended up being an address to the music industry. During the preparation of the speech it became evident that the issues he will be touching on are broader and bigger than the movement. He was initially going to address the Shatta Movement which he is the president and has always engaged them on Social Media. The one strongest point of Shatta is that of earnestly engaging his fans, followers, critics and also the media. The Shatta Movement is a force to be reckoned with and Shatta Wale has been loyal to them. He took a break from Social media for about a month to focus on his upcoming album and this address was to announce his return to social media, update Ghanaians on his US trip & lessons learnt and in closing talks about industry matters.
One simply has to replace Ghana with their country name and it becomes evident that the challenges are the same through out the continent to understand why and how the address became the State of the Industry Address. The issues spill beyond the movement. He not only speaks of the challenges but offers suggestions and/or solutions that have been echoed time and again by others who are well vested in the industry matters.
A cunning and brilliant campaign to promote the upcoming album GOG from the proclaimed King of Dancehall Shatta Wale, known to be controversial, funny and most importantly one who is able to speak his mind with no fear nor favour. He is one of the few who are able to use the social media to to promote their work wisely and can be likened to the Queen of Dancehall Spice, who also used socials wisely. Both do not rely on Record Labels to promote their works, but rather rely on their fan base. Their fans are the driving force behind their success and they engage them profusely. The Shatta Movement is global and they also form a defence force for Shatta Wale. Shatta knows that and respect them so much so that he called a media briefing just to announce his return to social media. As much as this was a pure clean publicity stunt, it was also a reflection on how much Shatta takes his fans and followers serious and showing his appreciation for their unwavering support. Along the way, he has gained many more supporters and solidified his stance as the King of Dancehall.
The upcoming album will feature Naira Marley, Popcan and ‘multi Grammy award winning artist from the USA’ which will be revealed closer to time. There is also the highly anticipated collaboration with the World Boss Vybz Kartel titled Mansa Musa.
The State of the Industry Address was brilliantly executed and his team did a great job of preparing such a well structured speech and let Shatta do the rest, what he does best, Entertain!
