Vice Versa Love – Conquerors Reggae Band Debut Single
The Conquerors Reggae Band is all about Roots Reggae and promoting positive messages through their music. Often referred to as The Conquerors, this Live Reggae band was formed in 2009 by lead singer Francois ‘Ras Dan’ Pietersen and Ocasia ‘Kassie’ Booysen the bass player. Ras Dan’s Eldest daughter held it down on keys and the eldest son on Drums. They have been spreading good good vibes in the Western Cape Live scene ever since, doing mainly cover songs and original material. The reception they got propelled them into the studio to record their original songs.
With partial funding from Mama Dance Music Library, the band went to Sonic Nursery Studios in Cape Town and recorded 3 singles. Vice Versa Love being the Debut single and the other 2 still in mixing and mastering phase. The song speaks to mothers and fathers teaching their sons and daughters about universal love, colour blind love, The core message that they have been spreading since the inception of the band. Ocasia, co-founding member of the group, explains:
“With the war happening in Palestine, Ukraine and even regional conflicts like Sudan and Ethiopia, we felt it was right to release this song as our debut single. It is also inline with our aims and objective which is to contribute to nation building, social cohesion and spread universal love.”
The song was composed by Francois Pietersen and Ocasia Booysen in 2020 and was first performed publicly at V&A Waterfront Take The Stage Series and then debuted on Expresso Morning Show. The popularity of the song got them a second invitation on Expresso in February for the Black History and Reggae Month Celebration.
Since the release of the Vice Versa Love, the band has been doing the rounds on local prominent Media channels. They were at Cape Talk, Cape Town’s number one news and talk station, interviewed by veteran broadcaster Clarence Ford. They went on to conquer Bush Radio, a popular and pioneering community radio station in South Africa. Not only that, but they were also at Radio Eersteriver where they brought so much reggae vibes that the broadcaster was so impressed, and wrote on this on their page:
The Conquerors are regarded as one of the prolific bands in the Western Cape and in the Reggae scene in Mzansi, not only for their music, but for their commitment to community works and involvement and working closely with other Reggae bands, musicians and singers. Ocasia is currently helping to recruit young musicians from his community in Scottsdene. The children, will be getting music lesson for free from the Mitchell’s Plain Music Academy, of which he is an alumnus.
With the release of the single, The Conquerors have opened another chapter in their musical journey and have cemented their presence in the Reggae scene.
