We have seen a flurry of Zim Dancehall artists performing here in South Africa. We have seen the mad collobo between Stonebwoy [Ghana] and Pato Ranking [Naija]. We started wondering about any collaborations amongst Reggae Dancehall Artists [Zim SA] and we came up with these. These are South Africa based Zim artists collaborating with with local producers and artists. We hope to see more cross border collabos as it looks to produce some interesting sounds.
Iley Creation feat Scorpion Di Stingah Principle Riddim [2014]
Cape Town based Iley Creation [Zim] together with Scorpion Di Stingah collaborated on this 2014 Principle Riddim produced by Rebelstone Music. Quite an interesting collaboration as most of the Riddims coming out of Rebel Stone are hard hitting dancehall riddim and Iley Creation has got that laid back lovers rock type of voice.
Vega Ft. Joe Texas – Be The One [2015]
Joe Texas [Zim] is based in Cape Town. Not much is known about Vega. She might be from Zimbabwe. She might not be from there. Either way, nice combination this and a powerful voice she got.
Kulcha Queen feat Sir Mockery – Jah Fire [2014]
Little is known about Sir Mockery [Zim] who was featured on Port Elizabeth based Kulcha Queens hit single Jah Fire.
Teban Cee and Zaimarn – She So Fine [2015]
The Pretoria based Teban Cee [Zim] has to be commended for reaching out to upcoming talent. Over a year ago he did a mad collabo with the then unknown Miz Dee on the Antidote Riddim. This time he collaborated with the fresh upcoming Zaimarn on a track called She So Fine. They have a similar style and voice so much so that its difficult to distinguish between the two.
Red Eye and Onele – ‘ Nah Tell a lie [2014]
Durban based DJ/Promoter Red Eye [Zim] teamed up with Onele on a one time hit, Nah tell a lie. The song is described as “Bridging The Gap Between South Africa And Zimbabwe With A Combination Of Xhosa / Shona /Zulu and English On a Matured Lovers Reggae Conscious Level” We hoped to hear more from the promising sounds of Onele, but we have not heard anything since.
Don Franco feat. Jah Link – Just wanna live up [2012]
An unlikely combination from Joburg based Don Franco [Zim] and Cape Town’s Jah Link on a massive motivational tune called Just wanna live up. Jah Link is known for his hard hitting explicit dancehall lyrics while Don Franco is a Rastafari principle adherent. It was probably one of the first Zim SA Collaboration.
Badman feat Lallibela and Classic B – City pon lock [2015]
The latest release from Badman Zim Dancehall Dada saw a collaboration with Bloemfontein artistes Lallibela and Classic B. Looks like Badman went to Bloemfontein to lock the city.
Blak Kalamawi and Iley creation – Ndiwe [2014]
Iley creation returns in a combination with Blak Kalamawi both Cape Town based. The song enjoyed wide air play and got listed in a couple of mix tapes.
Asian Black feat Fire Flames – Ndinokuda [2014]
Cape Town based Asian Black [Zim] has been putting in a lot of work, with a string of singles under her belt. She teamed up with Fire Flames for this beautiful love song. A video for the song is in the making.
